Seventh-day Adventist Church
Our History
In the beginning...
Under the leadership of Senior Pastor Winston Hurlock and Associate Pastor Wayne Williams, the Brampton Seventh-day Adventist Church answered the call to spread the everlasting gospel and initiated plans to begin another church in the Brampton area. On May 10, 1997 a small group of twenty-five members left the safety and comfort of the Brampton SDA Church to embark on a new journey. This journey of faith and service took them to 25 Ruth Avenue Brampton, where the Heartlake Presbyterian Church building was rented for worship.
Shortly after, under the divine inspiration from the Holy Spirit, the beautiful name “Ruth” was chosen. This name has its biblical origin in the Book of Ruth found in the Old Testament Bible. All agreed that the Hebrew equivalent of this Moabite name, which means “friendship”, was fitting for this company. The warmth and love of the Ruth family was evident as they ministered to each other and to the community.
Over the next few months the Ruth company continued to worship in Spirit and in Truth and proclaimed the everlasting Gospel OF Jesus Christ. Its members experienced overflowing joy when on January 30, 1999 the Ruth congregation was formally recognized as a Seventh-day Adventist church and accepted into the sisterhood of churches in the Ontario Conference of Seventh-day Adventist. By the fall of 1999 the family had grown so rapidly that the Ontario Conference decided to appoint Pastor Reynold Hazelwood as the senior pastor of the Ruth Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Ruth SDA continued welcome new members into the Ruth family and it became apparent that the Ruth family was overflowing with God’s blessings and bursting with His love. It was therefore time to have our own place of worship. In the year 2000, the Ruth SDA church established a building fund drive. Since then the church has hosted many concerts, banquets and garage sales and received individual pledges and community donations to help raise needed money for our very own Church building.
Through God’s divine intervention a land was acquired in the northeast Brampton area! This was a monumental accomplishment for the Ruth SDA Church and also confirmation that God was leading this process. On November 1, 2009 ground was officially broken to begin construction of the Ruth Seventh Day Adventist Church Building. Today...
Evangelism continues to be the hallmark of the Ruth SDA Church. We have a number of initiatives to serve our community and share the good news of Christ soon return. The church has consistently delivered Bible Studies, Revelation Seminars, Daniel Seminars, Family Life Seminars, and Evangelistic Meetings to meet the spirituals needs of many. The Community Services Ministry has consistently assisted families who are facing challenges and have sponsored annual Christmas food hampers for families. Through the Sabbath School, Men’s Ministries, and Personal Ministries Departments the church also ministers to two seniors residences every month. Through our social events we have been able to introduce many friends to Jesus. For these blessings we give all the praise and thanks to Jesus as we continue to look towards His soon return. - click on the “Our Ministries” Link on the right to learn more about current ministries at Ruth.
The Ruth Family continues to grow in God’s grace and share the everlasting Gospel of our soon coming King and Saviour. We appreciate your prayers and support! Come and joins us as we worship and fellowship in Jesus’ name.
